Actor Ray Walston is probably best known for his portrayal of Uncle Martin on the 1960s TV sitcom My Favorite Martian and as Judge Henry Bone on the 1990s television show Picket Fences.
He was born in New Orleans in 1914 and became a stage actor of some local renown. He eventually moved to Cleveland to work with the Cleveland Playhouse, before moving on to New York City and Broadway. He enjoyed a successful movie career before his most famous role on My Favorite Martian.
Walston died on New Year’s Day in 2001 after a six-year battle with lupus.
