Butterfly rash

Often a tell-tale sign of lupus, more than half of those diagnosed with lupus display this rash. Also known as the malar rash, it presents itself as a red, flat facial rash that extends from cheek to cheek, across the nose. It gets its name ("butterfly") from the shape it resembles.
